Abiding in Christ
The work is abiding in God. In JOHN 15, Jesus said, "Abide in me, and I in you... Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing... If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love."
Laying hold of truth
Zeal for the Lord combined with His guidance through the Holy Spirit leads us into truth. In ROMANS 12, Paul says, Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. And in JOHN 16, Jesus said, "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth."
Challenge goes both ways
We must be willing to share, challenge, and be challenged in what we believe. In JAMES 1, Paul says, Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. And he reminds us in COLOSSIANS 3, Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom.
